In this insightful interview, we have the pleasure of speaking with Lisanne, Owner of Camping Sevink Molen. She will be sharing her experiences with Crossover Lodge and gives some great tips for creating a remarkable glamping experience. Get ready to be inspired and explore the wonders of glamping!
1. What criteria were you looking for in new accommodations for your campground, and what led you to choose the Crossover Lodge?
We weren’t actually looking for anything else, but when we stumbled upon the Crossover Lodge at the expo, we were immediately sold. What a fantastic accommodation. It’s like a hotel room but in a tent. Truly an innovative concept, and its luxurious appeal aligns perfectly with our vision.
2. After visiting us at the Recreatie Vakbeurs Hardenberg (2022), we scheduled a follow-up appointment at our showroom in Breda. Ultimately, you chose the Crossover Lodge Medium. Could you elaborate on why this particular accommodation was selected?
Our existing accommodations primarly target families, but this time we aimed to appeal to a different market. That’s why we opted for the medium size, designed for two people. The field where we intended to place them had just enough space for this size. The medium size, offering plenty of privacy and space, seemed more suitable for two individuals compared to a large family tent.
3. What contributes to the full experience of your guests beyond providing luxurious accommodation?
We offer accommodations with a sauna, hot tub, and we also ensure to provide that extra touch. Guests receive a welcome package upon arrival, along with a personalized card and a bottle of wine. Being surrounded by nature, we already have an advantage, and we strive to bring that experience indoors as well.
4. What are the experiences of your guests who have stayed in the Crossover Lodge?
Very good. They find it to be a true experience. The ambiance is perfect!
5. How do you regulate the climate (temperature) inside during the different seasons?
During the rainy and colder nights this summer, the infrared panel proved to be sufficient. We added an extra gas heater starting from September, and in October, we also installed the sidewalls. From November onwards, we stopped renting them out, but it might still be an option for the future.
6. What is your opinion on the Glamping structures, and have they met your expectations?
Personally, I think Glamping structures are a great idea, although it took some time for us to adjust to them. Offering them with breakfast included was new for us, as was how we marketed them. Initially, there was a learning process in managing guest expectations. For instance, if someone expected a hotel room, they might have been disappointed because it’s still just a tent, so the temperature inside matches the outdoor temperature — although with climate control, we can moderate this to some extent. However, for those expecting a luxurious tent experience, the upgrade was remarkable. With time, we refined our approach.
7. What advice do you have for companies looking to offer upscale Glamping Tents, like the Crossover Lodge?
Hmm, yeah, that’s a tough one. I think everyone should find what works best for them. We fell in love with this tent so much that we just had to have it, and luckily, the bookings started off strong right away. Now, the investment is definitely higher than your typical glamping tent. But you can also increase the nightly rate. Especially if you, like use, add a hot tub or something similar and include breakfast, etc. We market it as a unique experience. A romantic getaway or a fun mother-daughter trip. There are so many possibilities despite it not being for everyone. So, it’s definitely a smart investment! Every time I step inside the tent, I still get super excited. We even stayed in it ourselves once for the ultimate experience. I’d love to do it again but in different locations.
